Jessica Tundo
Student Intern
Hello, my name is Jess Tundo!
I’m a clinical mental health counseling intern. I am passionate about providing mental health care that is accessible, evidence-based, strengths-focused, multiculturally-sensitive, transparent, and focused on YOUR holistic wellness. Whether you have never sought mental wellness support or have received services in the past, I look forward to the opportunity to discuss your concerns, goals, values, and how I may be able to best support you in achieving the balance and wellness you deserve!
I have an extensive background of various work and internship experiences with many different populations. My therapeutic approach is rooted in empathy, active listening, and evidence-based techniques tailored to your unique needs and goals. I have experience with the DBT (dialectical behavioral therapy) approach, and draw from other models as well.
I have partnered with a variety of individuals to achieve more satisfaction in many aspects of their lives. Some have simply wanted a space to express themselves, connect with another human, or explore challenges in their lives from different angles. I have also worked with folks experiencing anxiety, depression, bipolar disorders, and other mental health conditions and with people who sustained traumatic brain injuries (TBIs), who are incarcerated, and inpatient psychiatric patients.
A note on my stance toward diagnosis: Diagnosis and labeling symptoms are an important part of treatment, healing, and not feeling alone for many people who seek therapy. Submitting a diagnosis is also required for billing of insurance, and can help providers coordinate care. However, I wholeheartedly believe that meeting criteria for a diagnosis is NOT required in order to seek counseling or mental health support. Everyone experiences some sort of imbalance, frustration, confusion, loss, and/or dissatisfaction with certain areas of their life–and therapy is a great place to explore those areas for improvement. I also understand the historical (and current) harm that overpathologizing has had on individuals and groups, and try to be sensitive and transparent about the counseling and diagnostic process with my clients. I invite all clients to bring their questions, concerns, and previous experiences to session for discussion!
